Necron Annihilation Barge Posted

Posted January 14, 2012

Finally getting around to posting images of the Annihilation Barge that was the subject of my recent tutorial videos! Also bought some of the new Vampire Counts stuff today - some really, really nice models. Picked up a wight king (I really like the new "single plastic" models, much more than finecast ones frankly!), a Mortis Engine, and 2 boxes of the Vargheist/Crypt Horrors.  First things I paint will likely be the wight king and 3 vargheists. I'm going to paint the VGs in dark tones, kinda like the Terrorgheist I did a while back. I think it might look cooler than the really pale official scheme.

Naturally with the release of a new army (I picked up the book and a couple of packs of magic cards) I get fantasies of trying to paint up an army. Rarely pans out as you know :)  I never did get very far with the Ogre Kingdoms for example, despite some really nice models and a decent power level for the army from what I've read. The one thing I used to hate about playing VCs (....I think I played them once...) was when the general dies your army crumbles. They've changed that slightly now (other wizards can slow down the crumbling). I'd love a little VC army although painting up enough core troops can be challenging. That and I never have people to play with (and rarely enough time to do so). Anyway, enough blathering for now!

Looking forward to your vargheist work. I feel your pain about not playing, I went through that for several years. Then, out of the blue, a guy just 5 streets away contacts me after seeing my stuff on ebay. Now we game once a week! It could happen to you.....;)

My necron warriors are a different color but my elites, vehicles and HQ's are all bone. I'm adding the Barge and the Ark to my army now. I was wondering, when you painted your Ark, did you do it in stages or all in one go like the Barge. There is a ton of detail in the center of that thing. Your tutorial was very helpful too. Great work!

Hi EMDEE, I painted the ark using very similar steps. I had it seperated into three segments for painting - the "horse-shoes", the back section with the rider, and the gun barrel along the bottom. I glued those all together after painting.
